About the Faculty of Medicine Research Office
The Faculty of Medicine Research Office works under the direction of the Vice Dean, Research & International Relations and the Associate Dean, Research, to encourage, facilitate and coordinate research activities in all areas of the Faculty and affiliated research institutes. Our mission includes supporting the role of the University’s Research Services Office, in assuring that research-related policies and procedures are in place.
Services Provided by the FMRO:
Provide the administrative and research infrastructure required by the Faculty of Medicine to operate a research enterprise;Advocacy and lobbying activities in support of the research community;
Participate in the development of Research Policy and Ethics Policy for the Faculty;
Support interactions with the Vice Dean and Associate Dean with provincial, national, and international organizations;
Authorize grant applications on behalf of the Dean;
Authorize CIHR applications submitted through the Faculty on behalf of the University and provide information on the Tri-Council granting agencies;
Prepare letters of support that may be required for career awards or grant applications;
Organize Faculty adjudications and/or submission of materials for Canada Research Chairs and provincial and federal research and infrastructure programs to the University’s Institutional Initiatives office;
Assist the Faculty Research Grants Committee, which adjudicates the Grant Miller competition as well as other adjudications when required;
Conduct annual Grant Writing Workshops and New Faculty Orientation sessions;
Provide faculty members with updates received from granting agencies and other research-related news, through “What’s New in Research Funding”, posted on this website and distributed electronically through our VDRIR mailing list;
Prepare statistical and analytical report to fulfill local, national and international reporting requirements; and to provide information for faculty planning, including the yearly production of the Synopsis of Research Activities (PDF);
Assistance to the Dean in soliciting and coordinating nominations for prizes and awards;
Provide administrative assistance for the responsibilities of the Vice Dean, Research and International Relations and the Associate Dean, Research including the oversight of services, including the Division of Comparative Medicine, the Medical Imaging Laboratory, and Faculty Research Services: the Biohazard Research Facility and the Division of Teaching Laboratories, including its Equipment Repair Service;
